David James DuFlo, Fishers Landing

FISHERS LANDING, NY — David James DuFlo died July 21, 2018.

Survived by his wife, Debra Hanselman DuFlo, loving daughters Dr. Samantha DuFlo (Young M. Choi) and Baby Girl DuFlo Choi (due Nov.), Baltimore, MD and Nicole DuFlo Glassman (Dr. Aaron Glassman) and Baby Boy Glassman (due Aug.), Virginia Beach, VA, brother Daniel Du Flo (Tracy DuFlo) Lowville, NY and 2 sisters, and extended family.

David, an Army veteran who served during Vietnam, recently retired after a distinguished 50-year career with Northwestern Mutual Life, starting as a young college agent. During his time at Northwestern he was a leader, mentor, and award-winning agent who inspired his colleagues to always go the extra mile. He also sat on the Boards for Boy Scouts of America Otetiana Council, University of Rochester Medical Center Planned Giving Advisory Board and the Rochester Area Community Foundation.

David was an avid outdoorsman with a lifelong love of the St. Lawrence River, an accomplished skeet shooter, hunter, fisherman, scuba diver, and boater who earned his Coast Guard Captain’s license.  The great outdoors was his home.  He also had no bucket list.  He lived his bucket list and felt strongly that he should always live his dash and follow his dreams.  David lived an amazing life with integrity and dignity and was especially proud to be the father of two amazing daughters. Most people will remember David as “the guy with the Chesapeake”. For 40 years there was always at least one of his beloved Chesapeake Bay Retrievers at his side.

Although David’s passing was sudden and unexpected, it was peaceful.  He spent the last few weeks of his life surrounded by his daughters, family, and friends at the River doing what he loved.

Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Fishers Landing Volunteer Fire Department, PO Box 23,  Fishers Landing, NY 13641.

Arrangements are with the T.R. Jetty Funeral Home in Clayton.
