Adams man accused of choking woman, Watertown police say

WATERTOWN, NY — Jeffrey M. Vanauker, 40, of 16008 County Route 91, Adams, was charged by Watertown police at 9:32 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, at 435 S. Hycliff Dr. with criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, second-degree criminal contempt, endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree harassment.

He is accused of violating the terms of a Family Court order of protection when he slapped a 38-year-old woman across her face, placed his hands around her throat and squeezed to the point she was unable to breathe normally while in close proximity to a 6-year-old boy at about 9:06 p.m. Tuesday at 435 S. Hycliff Dr., according to court documents.

He was being held pending arraignment Wednesday morning in City Court.
