REDWOOD, NY — Alice J. Sears, 87, Redwood, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019 at Carthage Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, Carthage, NY.
Born July 12, 1931, in Leyden, NY, a daughter of Henry J. and Hazel N. Hines Jarvis, she graduated from Redwood High School and Watertown School of Commerce.
Alice married Donald G. Sears on Sept. 25, 1954, at the Fairmont Union United Methodist Church, Syracuse, NY. The couple met while working for a printing company while living in Fairport, NY. In 1976, they moved to Theresa, NY. Donald passed away on Sept. 29, 2008.
In the early years she worked for Estabrook Printing, Syracuse, NY and was a housewife and cared for her aging mother. She was also the Theresa Tax Assessor for a time.
Alice loved knitting, reading and flowers. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by four sons, Mark Sears and wife, Dale, Jeffrey Sears and companion Denise Smith, Todd Sears, Scott Sears and wife, April, all of Theresa, NY; a sister, Margaret L. Getman, Carthage, NY; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Alice was predeceased by her parents, her husband and three siblings, Edward Jarvis, Rosemary Boyette and Leon Jarvis.
Calling hours will be 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2019, at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Theresa, NY.
Memorial Services will follow at 6 p.m. Friday with Pastor Frederica Webb, officiating. A gathering will be held at 7 p.m. at the Theresa Fire Hall.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Central NY Chapter.
