Castorland man charged with DWI after backing into Lowville patrol car, police say

LOWVILLE, NY — Lorn D. Hirschey, 66, Castorland, was charged by Lowville police at 9:13 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, with driving while intoxicated and unsafe backing.

Police said Mr. Hirschey was arrested after he backed into a marked Lowville police patrol vehicle causing damage to the front driver’s side door while a police officer was sitting inside the vehicle. There was also damage to the rear bumper of Mr. Hirschey’s vehicle.

His blood alcohol content was 0.08 percent, police said. A BAC of 0.08 percent or more is considered proof of intoxication under state law.

He is summoned to appear in Village Court at a later date.
