Jessica is the daughter of Joseph Tufo and the late Laurie Maust. Jessica graduated from Carthage Central High School in 2010. She graduated from Jefferson Community College in 2013 with degrees of Associate of Humanities and Social Science and Physical Education. Jessica then continued her education at The College at Brockport  graduating with a Bachelor of Health Science. She currently works at Jefferson Community College as a Technical Specialist in Enrollment Services.

Marcus is the son of Mark and Karen, Watertown. Marcus graduated in 2009 from Immaculate Heart Central. He then graduated from Onondaga Community College in 2011 with a degree in education. Marcus continued his education at St. Lawrence University graduating in 2013 with a Bachelor in history and minor in education, he then received his Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction from SUNY Potsdam in 2014. He currently works for Johnson and Johnson as a sales consultant concentrated in sports medicine.

Jonell is the daughter of John and Kathy Michael (Watertown). Jonell is a 2005 graduate of Watertown High School. She graduated from Green Mountain College with a Bachelor of the Arts degree in Environmental Studies, with a dual concentration in Sustainable Agriculture & Food Production and Human Sciences & Public Policy. Jonell is currently a graduate student at the Greater Rochester Collaborative Master of Social Work Program and works at the Jefferson County Office for the Aging.

Dustin is the son of Jon and Darlene Houppert (Carthage). Dustin is a 2004 graduate of Carthage Central High School. He graduated from Jefferson Community College with an Associate degree in Liberal Arts in 2007. He played football, lacrosse, and wrestled at the high school and collegiate level, as well as played semi-pro football for the Watertown Red & Black. Dustin is working toward his Bachelor’s in Business Administration and is employed as a recruiter for Convergys.

A small wedding ceremony is planned for the beginning of December.

Biz is the daughter of John and Cindy Cook, Black River. Biz is a 2010 graduate of Carthage Central High School. She graduated from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in 2016 with a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree. Biz currently works as a pharmacist for Kinney Drugs.

Matt is son of Brian and Debbie Hayden, Carthage. Matt is a 2009 graduate of Carthage Central High School. He graduated with an Associates in Liberal Arts from JCC in 2011 and a Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Education from SUNY Cortland in 2013. He completed his Master’s of Sports Studies from United States Sports Academy in 2015. Matt is currently employed as a physical education teacher at Carthage Central School and is the owner of Hayden’s Landscaping and Design.

A June 2018 wedding is planned at Tailwater Lodge in Altmar.

Mr. & Mrs. Antoine (Tony) LaMica - 60 Years

 

Mr. and Mrs. Antoine (Tony) LaMica, celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on November 9, 2017

Antoine (Tony) LaMica, son of the late Fred and Elizabeth LaMica, and Ethel (Toots) Dindl, daughter of the late Joe and Rose Dindl (LaFountain), were married on November 9, 1957 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Antwerp, with the late Father Mehan officiating.

Best Man was Kenneth LaMica (brother of the groom), Matron of Honor was the late Peggy Hogle (sister of the groom). Attendants were Charles Alton (brother-in-law of the groom), the late Madore LaMica (brother of the groom), Eula Yonts and the late Joyce Bridge (friends of the bride). A reception was held at the Antwerp Hotel. Due to a blizzard on their wedding day, they honeymooned in Rome…New York!

Tony and Toots lived in Antwerp most of their married lives and raised two children - a son, Donald LaMica who is married to Diane and lives in Lompoc, CA and a daughter, Penny Pierce who is married to James and lives in Adams. They have three granddaughters – Jeni Torres who lives in Clovis, CA; Amanda (Joels) Kramer who is married to David, and lives in Schenectady; and Kaci (Joels) Coseo, who is married to Edmond, and lives in Brownville. They also have two step grandsons – Andrew Pierce who lives in Carthage, and Benjamin Pierce, who lives in Watertown,and one step-great-granddaughter, Kinsley Pierce, who lives in Carthage.

They love camping and traveling and have spent most of their retirement traveling around the country in their RV, visiting all but three states in the continental United States. They currently reside in Lake City, FL where they enjoy exploring the beautiful sunny south. Their love and devotion to each other is an inspiration to all who know them.

She received her Bachelor's degree in Disability Studies from West Virginia University and will complete her Bachelor's in Behavioral Health Science from Grand Canyon University next fall. Kailyn is currently employed as a Self-Direction Coordinator with Disabled Persons Action Organization in Watertown.

Craig is the son of Thomas and Kimberlee Forbes of Watertown.

Craig is a 2007 graduate of Watertown High School. He received his Associate's degree in Business Administration from Jefferson Community College in 2010, and completed his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration at SUNY Oswego in 2012. Craig is currently employed as a Warehouse Team Leader with Timeless Frames in Watertown.

Kailyn and Craig reside in Watertown with their cats, Ezzie and Stella. They will be married in October 2018 at Tailwater Lodge in Altmar.

Together with their families Rachael Waite and Brett Golas announce their engagement. Brett and Rachael got engaged in March of 2017.

Rachael is the daughter of Steve and Darci Waite. She is a 2013 Lowville Academy graduate, a 2015 graduate of Jefferson Community College and is currently studying her Bachelors in Social Work through Keuka College. Rachael is employed at Credo Community Center working at the Women's Residence.

Brett is the son of Carl and Barb Golas. He graduated Lowville Academy in 2012, and attended Jefferson Community College for Engineering. Brett is also a Clarkson University Alumni and has a degree in civil engineering. Brett currently is employed at the NYS DOT, as a civil engineer.

Brett and Rachael enjoy spending time with their family and friends, and enjoy many outdoor activities like golfing, fishing and 4-wheeling.

They are planning a July 2018 wedding.

Brian Munk, Brownville a close family friend officiated in an outdoor ceremony with the best fall weather ever.

Kristin is the daughter of Lucy & Michael Booth, Watertown. Ricky is the Son
of Sandy Radley, Chaumont & Rick Best, Watertown.

Bridesmaids and Groomsmen were lifelong friends Diana Shullette, Kate
Shanahan, and Samantha Carroll; brother, Derek Best, Derek Lane and Ryan Hughes.

The Bride and Groom met eleven years ago through a mutual friend. They
shared in their celebration with sons, Ayden and Cameron.

Friends and family traveled from points as far as Canada, Delaware, Virginia & Michigan.

Maci Claire DeGan

 

Michael and Julie DeGan announce the birth of their daughter, Maci Claire DeGan.

Maci was born on October 13, 2017 at 8:11 a.m. at Carthage Area Hospital in Carthage. She weighed 7 lbs. 4 oz. and measured 18 1/2 inches long.

Maci’s maternal grandparents are Mary Nowak of Watertown and Mark Nowak of Syracuse who sadly missed her birth, and passed away earlier this year of leukemia. Her paternal grandparents are David and Angela DeGan of Chico, TX.

She was welcomed home by her big brother Emmett and fur siblings Charlie, Lilly and Ruby.

Alyssa is the daughter of Annette and John Alteri. She graduated from Immaculate Heart Central High School in Watertown in 2010. She then went on to Jefferson Community College for her Associates in Early Childhood Education. She is continuing her education in Early Childhood and Special Education. She is currently an Early Education teacher at Jefferson Rehabilitation Center Bright Beginnings Early Learning Center in Watertown.

Joseph is the son of Pamela and Harold Rozanski. He graduated from General Brown Junior/Senior High School in Dexter in 2009. He then went on to Jefferson Community College for his Associates in Criminal Justice then continued his education at SUNY Canton. He is currently a Corrections Officer at Cape Vincent in Clayton.

Alyssa and Joe both reside in Watertown with their husky, Killian. They will be getting married May 5, 2018 at St. Anthony's Church with a reception to follow at Bonnie castle in Alex Bay.

Standing by the couple's side were Matron of Honor, Sarah Gee, Watertown, and Best Man Tyson Betts, Rome, GA. Junior Bridesmaid was Lillianne Gee, and flower girls were Adeline Gee and Ella Gee.

Emily works for Northwest Georgia Oncology Centers, and Dave works for Preferred Sales Associates. The couple resides in Cartersville, GA with their dog Annie Lou.

The couple took a honeymoon to Tennessee.

Thomas E. McAvoy, son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Neil J. McAvoy (Eileen), and Jeanine A. Leahy, daughter of late Mr. Robert A. Leahy and Ms. Elizabeth J. Leahy were married on October 14, 1972 at St. John the Baptist, Catholic Church with Rev. C. J. McAvoy officiating. Attendants were Mary Ellen McAvoy (James), Jill McAvoy (Gottlieb), Lee Ann McAvoy (Goldman), Debi McAvoy (Grayson), Michelle McAvoy (Giovagnoli)Steve Carr, Steve McAvoy, and Gary Tiernan.

The couple worked together for years at Novak welding, prior to the closing of the business. Tom retired from Lewis & Clinch, where he worked as a welder and boiler worker. He is a member of the Local 910 IBEW, where he continues to teach a welding course. Jeanine retired from Brookside Cemetery where she worked as an office manager.

The couple have three children, Melissa Redford, Great Bend, Christina Pharoah (John), Evans Mills, and Kathleen Williams (Lewis III), Calcium. They have seven grandchildren Ashley, Jacob, Trevor, Taylor, Trenton, Evelyn, and Lewis IV.

They are expecting their first great-grandchild, Chance, in January.
Tom is an avid race fan of both Dirt and NASCAR. Jeanine enjoys trips to the Casino and taking her chances with the New York Lotto. The couple enjoys camping with their family and friends and trips to Lake Placid. They spend a lot of time with their children and grandchildren and help with babysitting.

On Saturday October 7, 2017, Melani Blake Southwell and Donald Seymour Payne, Three Mile Bay, were married in an outdoor ceremony by officiant and best friend to the groom, Richard Norton. The ceremony took place overlooking the lake at The Blue Moose cabin in the Adirondacks, owned by Fran and Greg Shattuck, friends of the bride and groom.

The ceremony was small and intimate conducted by Fran Shattuck with readings from Wendy Hutcheon, Mother of the Bride and Jessie Norton, Maid of Honor, which was followed by the couple exchanging handwritten vows.

Standing by the couple's side were Maid of Honor, Jessie Norton; Matron of Honor, Brittani Norton; Best Man and surprise officiant, Richard Norton.

The couple reside at their home in Three Mile Bay with their dogs, Brodie and Zeek. The couple have planned a honeymoon road trip through New England ending in Maine.

Mr. West, son of the late Michael and Anna West, and Ann Marie Chavoustie, niece of the late Francis and Rita Chavoustie, were married October 5, 1957, at All Saints Church with the late Rev. Edward P. Burns officiating.

Attendants were Mary Ann Buduson and Glenn West, late brother of the Bridegroom.

Mr. and Mrs. are both 1956 graduates of Lyme Central School.

James is a retired Teamster after 40 years of driving tractor trailer. The Mr. and Mrs. enjoy spending time with their family and friends. They love watching the local sports teams and especially watching their grandchildren play sports.

The couple has six children, Mark and Lisa, Dexter, Kathy and Randy, Chaumont, Rick and Maria, Cherry Hill, Illinois, Jeff and Annette, Brownville, Jen and Chris, Chaumont, and Daughter in Law, Tammy of Dexter. Their youngest son, David, passed away in June of this year. They have 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Mr. & Mrs. Charles G. Solar - 70 Years

 

Mr. & Mrs. Charles G. Solar, 1010 James St., Clayton, observed their 70th wedding anniversary on September 28, 2017.

Charles Glenn Solar, son of the late Mr. & Mrs. John Solar, and Gertrude Marie Riches, daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Ulysses Riches were married on September 28, 1947 at the Alexandria Bay Methodist Church with the Rev. Lisle B. Caldwell officiating. Attendants were the late John Solar, brother of the bridegroom and the late Ida Welsh Silver.

Mrs. Solar graduated from Alexandria Central School in 1943. She retired from the former Graphic Controls, Clayton in 1988. She is a Charter Member of the Clayton Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and past District Deputy of the Thousand Islands Rebekah Lodge 109.

Mr. Solar graduated from Clayton Central School in 1941. He served in the US Army during World War II. In 1984, he retired as Superintendent of the Village of Clayton Department of Public Works. He was honored as Clayton’s First Citizen of the Year in 1970. In 2011, he was named Honorary Dock Master in recognition and honor of his dedicated and outstanding service to the Clayton Community. Mr. Solar is a member of the American Legion Post 821, Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 328, and is a 76year active member of the Clayton Volunteer Fire Department, of which he has been President, Vice President and Chief. From the time of his retirement, until March 2013, he served as Village Crossing Guard in Clayton.

Mr. and Mrs. Solar have two sons, William C., Clayton and Robert G. and his wife Sandy of Lovingston, VA. They have seven grandchildren: Brian (Pam) Solar; William (Beth) Solar, II, , all of Clayton; Kristi Bice of Watertown; Erin Solar of Altoona PA; Michael (Bekah) Solar of Morris; David Solar and Robert (Sarah) Solar, Jr. of Lovingston, VA. They are also the proud great-grandparents of Dylan Bice, 19, Kristen Solar, 18; Kassidy Bice, 17; Alexa Solar, 15; Trevor Harkinson, 13; Katelyn Solar, 13; Chayse Harkinson, 10; Cooper Solar, 7; Gretchen Solar, 5 and Edwin Solar, 2.

William A. and Margaret J. (Dick) Loomis recently celebrated their 50th anniversary.

Father Looby officiated over the renewing of their vows at the St. Elizabeth's Church in Dexter, where they were married on September 18,1967 .

A reception was held at Art's Jug restaurant after the ceremony with pictures of the occasion taken by Hannah Jesmore.

Attending the celebration were Mary S. Dorr and Linda Loomis, sisters of the bride, Donald H. Loomis, brother of the groom, and long-time family friend, Joyce Davis.

The couple has three children, Lisa (Jamie) of Florida, William (Tina) of Florida, and Ronald (Darlene) of North Carolina .

The couple attended General Brown High School and Marge graduated in 1964.

Marge and Bill both retired and reside in Florida and enjoy spending time with their family. Their also enjoy traveling, cooking, gardening and playing cards.

Ben is a 2009 graduate of Carthage Central High School. He received his Associates degree in Civil Engineering and also a Bachelors degree in Civil/Environmental technology in 2016 from SUNY College Of Technology at Canton. He is currently employed by the City Of Watertown Engineering Department.

Ben and Morgen reside in their new home in Theresa with their cat, Maisey.

A July 28, 2018 wedding is planned with a reception at the Elks Lodge in Lowville.

On Saturday, August 12, 2017, Joanie F. Rhone and Scott Z. Laquay, LaFargeville, were married in an outdoor ceremony by Pastor Donna Fitchette. The Ceremony took place at East Ridge Farms home of the brides grandparents, Voigt and Joan Recor, LaFargeville, underneath a grove of maple trees.

Bridgette Demarse, Clayton, sang for the attendees . The bride's parents are Jennifer Rhone and Michael Laclair of Clayton, and the grooms parents are Michelle and Ryan Rarick of Theresa.

Maid of Honor was Isabell Casler, Best man was Dustin Makuch. Bridesmaids were April Heyman, Cheyenne Rhone, Mariah Rhone, Rebecca Makuch, and Gabrielle Wilson. Groomsmen were Mark Wolf, Josh Jones, Jon Wagoner, Corey Mckee, and Mason Angus. The Flower Girl was  Nevaeh LaShomb, Ring bearer Lyndon Rarick and Bride's train was carried by Hannah Knapp.

The couple reside in Evans Mills and honeymooned in Puerto Rico.

Paul R. & Phyllis D. Jantzi - 65 Years

 

Paul R. and Phyllis D. Jantzi, Lowville, observed their 65th wedding anniversary on August 14, 2017.

Mr. Jantzi, son of the late Aaron and Susan Ressler, and Phyllis D Widrick, daughter of the late John E. and Ellen B. Lehman Widrick, were married on August 14, 1952, at Lowville Mennonite Church with Rev. Andrew Gingerich and Rev. Lloyd Boshart officiating.

Mr. Jantzi graduated from Lowville Academy in 1952. He was a practical nurse at Lewis County General Hospital, a bus driver at Lowville Academy, a delivery driver for Agway and retired from Anchor Motor Freight in 1993. He is employed part time at Waite Toyota doing auto exchanges.

Mrs. Jantzi graduated from Lowville Academy in 1949. She worked at the Beaverite, Beaver Falls and retired as a bus driver from Lowville Academy in 1993.

They have enjoyed many years of traveling throughout the United States and volunteering for the Mennonite Central Committee, Akron, Pa. and attending Blue Grass music festivals. Their most enjoyment is spending time with their family.

The couple have three sons and their wives- P. Bruce (Ruth) of Clintondale; A. Peter (Roberta) of Lowville; Timothy (Kelly) of Mexico. Five daughters and their husbands- Donna (Ritchie) Turck of Lowville; Florence (Rick) Breglia of Adams; Ellen (Barry) Waite of Henderson; Sundena (Lee) Cobb of Glenfield and Trinda (Ronald) Hayes of Barneveld. They have many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

The couple have been active members in many aspects of the Lowville Mennonite Church throughout their married life.
 

They enjoyed a dinner celebration at the Brick Oven Inn, in Beaver Falls, with their children and their spouses.

Mark Stephen Converse, son of Steve and Geana Converse and Lorie Lynn Burto, daughter of Julie Rusho and daughter and step-daughter of Wayne Rusho and Thomas Burto, were married by Lorie’s brother, Adam Wayne Rusho, at the Elks Club in Carthage on May 27, 2017.

The couple exchanged hand written vows in front of many friends and family at their Gatsby-themed celebration. Lorie was given away by her son, Hunter James Goodman.

The couple took a honeymoon to Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard.

The bride is the daughter of John A. and Clara R. Hermann, Calcium. Barbara is employed as General Manager at Doldo Brothers Inc, Beer Distributor, Watertown and also a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant.

The groom is the son of Sharon M. Sweeney Catrhtage and the late Glenn A Sweeney. Phillip is the Owner and Operator of Sweeney’s Auto Repair, Deer River.

The couple reside at their home in Deer River and plan to honeymoon in a Cabin on the Thousand Islands.
