Donald R. Bigelow, 84, Hammond

HAMMOND, NY — Donald R. Bigelow, 84, of Hammond, and Ramsey Shores, Henderson, died Sunday morning March 17, 2019, at Hospice of Jefferson County, Watertown, NY.

There are no public services. Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home Inc, Adams.

Born March 20, 1934, in Rochester, NY, a son of Leo and Florence (Gartz) Bigelow, he attended primary schools and Edison Tech in Rochester.  In 1952 he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was a crew chief on B-47 and was honorably discharged in 1956.

He married Veda Santos in 1954 in the Spencer Ripley Church in Rochester, NY.

Following his discharge he worked for his father doing flooring. He later started his own painting and wall papering business in Rochester and the Ontario area, working alongside with his wife. They purchased their home at Ramsey Shores in 1967 and for several years they spent their winters in Marathon and Naples FL.

When they weren’t at Ramsey Shores, Mr. and Mrs. Bigelow lived at the home of their son Martin Bigelow, Hammond, NY, for the past ten years.

Mrs. Bigelow died January 14, 2018.

He is survived by four sons Wayne R. (Mary) Bigelow, Lake Wood, FL, Martin Bigelow, Hammond, NY, David (Sandra) Bigelow, Williamson, NY, Jeffery (Rhonda) Bigelow, Williamson, NY; several grandchildren, great grandchildren; a brother Raymond Bigelow, Irondequcit, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Elmer L. Bigelow, and a sister, Doris Halpin.
