Edward T.  Zehr, 76, Croghan

CROGHAN, NY — Edward T.  Zehr, 76, of New Road, Croghan, passed away Tuesday morning, Feb. 12, 2019, at his home.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville, with Pastors Evan Zehr and Keith Zehr officiating. Calling hours are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2019, prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Spring burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery, Croghan.

Born Feb. 6, 1943, in Carthage, NY, a son of the late Aaron and Nina Noftsier Zehr, he attended country school at Tooker Hill and Beaver River Central School, and worked on the family farm. He began working at AMF in Lowville in 1963.

On Aug. 17, 1963, he married Sandra L. Ebersol at the bride’s parents’ home on Trinity Avenue in Lowville with Rev. John Widrick officiating.

Ed retired from AMF after 40 years of service in 2003.

Ed raised and raced homing pigeons in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

During the 1970s, Ed enjoyed racing snowmobiles locally and throughout New York State. Ed loved to watch his sons wrestle while they were in high school and many lifetime adventures with his daughter. Some of his most cherished times were spent watching the deer and the birds daily with his wife. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and NASCAR.

Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Ed was a member of Lowville Mennonite Church, where he enjoyed his church family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Sandy; four children and their spouses, Edwin and Judy Zehr of Croghan, Jeffrey Zehr of Watertown, Brenda and Timothy Roberts of Copenhagen, Ricky and Tammy Zehr of Lowville; eight grandchildren, Scott Zehr and fiancé Trisha Keefer, Tyler and Deidra Zehr, Ashley and Devin Widrick and great grandson Bennett; Rebeka, Justin and Emma Roberts; Katelyn and Michael Moote and great-grandson Greyson, Kyle Zehr and Jamisyn Gill and great grandson Kaiden; two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Dorothy Zehr of Carthage, Joseph and Julia Zehr of Lowville; two sisters-in-law, Ada Zehr of Lowville and Angeline Zehr of Florida; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Two brothers, Milton and Gerald Zehr and a sister, Arletha O’Kay, all died before him.
