George S. Tripp, 83, formerly of Watertown

WATERTOWN, NY — George S. Tripp, 83, formerly of Watertown, Adams Center, and Clayton, passed away Thursday evening, July 26, 2018, aT St. Joseph’s Nursing Home, Ogdensburg, where he had resided for a year.

His funeral mass will be held 11a.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, at Holy Family Church, Watertown. with Rev. Michael Gaffney presiding followed by burial in Glenwood Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown.

Born March 21, 1935, in Watertown, the son of George S. and Alice Jones Tripp, he graduated Valedictorian of the Class of 1953 from Immaculate Heart Academy.

He was a truck driver for ten years for Byrns Motor in Watertown.

He was a man with strong faith. In his younger years he attended Holy Family Church and later was a communicant of both St. Cecilia’s Church, Adams and St. Mary’s Church, Clayton. He was a member of St. Cecilia’s Holy Name Society, St. Mary’s Altar and Rosary Society, and the Knights of Columbus Council 350 in Clayton. George was an Eagle Scout and an avid Notre Dame football fan.

He enjoyed camping, swimming, and skating, but his greatest enjoyment was being a dad and grandfather.

He is survived by his four children, Mary Demeree and husband, Tim, Little Falls, Julia Streeter and husband, Mike, Syracuse, Patrick Tripp, Manlius, and John Tripp, Watertown; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; two brothers, P. Tony and wife, Noreen, Nampa, ID and Michael Tripp, Watertown; six sisters, Eleanor Majeski and husband, Francis, Scottsville, Julia Spillet, Holland, OH, Helen Smiley and husband, Wayne, Watertown, Alice Lazenby and husband, Lewis, Supply, NC, Margaret Lapo, Delanson, and Catherine Timmeny and husband Wallace, VA and FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

His father, George, his mother, Alice L. Edick, three brothers, Dr. Joseph, Patrick, and Peter Tripp, and a sister, Mary Tripp Bernier, all died before him.
