EVANS MILLS, NY — Gerald L. Shepherd, 73, of Gartland Rd., died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, at SUNY Upstate Hospital, Syracuse, NY, where he had been a patient since an accident six weeks ago.
Born Feb. 4, 1945, in Watertown, NY, a son of Lorne and Ethel Leuze Shepherd, he attended Evans Mills High School and Indian River Central School.
Gerald married Diana Redmond of Philadelphia, NY in Charleston, SC, in February 1965.
He entered the US Navy in 1964, sailed around the world working as a boilerman and was honorably discharged in 1968. After his military service, he worked as a HVAC technician for various companies on the East Coast and retired from Derouin Plumbing & Heating in 2012.
Gerald enjoyed his garden and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife 53 years, Diana; five children, daughter,Tracey Russell and husband Brett, Evans Mills, NY, daughter, Tammy Taylor and husband, Joseph, Glen Park, NY, son, Troy Shepherd, Evans Mills, NY, and daughter, Brandi Shepherd, Evans Mills, NY; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Michael Shepherd, Evans Mills, NY; a sister and brother-in-law, Lorna and Robert Froemming, MN; an honorary daughter, Pam Myers, New Philadelphia, OH; nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents, two brothers, Paul Shepherd and Russell Shepherd, a sister, Linda Dillabaugh and a son-in-law, Daniel Desrosiers all died previously.
Graveside services will be 11 am Thursday, October 18, 2018 in Sanford Corners Cemetery, NYS Rt. 342, Calcium, NYÂ 13616.
