Inmate allegedly struck by 2 fellow inmates at Lewis County Courthouse, deputies say

LOWVILLE, NY — Two inmates are accused of attacking a fellow inmate on Oct. 25 at the Lewis County Courthouse, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

Jacob D. Gearhart, 26, Lowville,and Joshua D. Beardslee, 32, Arlington Street, Watertown, allegedly struck Denver J. Larkins, 18, of Lystik Road, Glenfield, multiple times in his head with their elbows and shoved him to a concrete wall again striking his head while all three were handcuffed and wearing RACC belts, deputies said.

Larkins complained of pain and had visible injuries, deputies said. He was treated at Lewis County General Hospital and returned to the jail.

“All three men were in custody and were at court for charges in Lewis County, while Beardslee and Gearhart also have pending cases in Jefferson County,” deputies said.

“Beardslee was in Lewis County Court for a third-degree burglary/larceny arrest, Gearhart was in court for child abuse and second-degree assault charges and Larkins was there for child abuse and third-degree burglary charges,” deputies said.
