Joan A. LaBarge, 86, West Carthage

WEST CARTHAGE, NY – Joan A. LaBarge, 86, a longtime resident of West Carthage, passed Thursday evening, Dec. 20, 2018, at Ellis Farm Hospice, surrounded by her loving family. She suffered a fall at home.

Born Jan. 9, 1932, in Watertown, the son of Robert and Rose Staie Kitts, she graduated from West Carthage High School in 1949 and was salutatorian.

She retired from Watertown Savings Bank 1994.

She was a trustee for Village of West Carthage in late 1970s.  She was a 38-year member of Bassett-Baxter American Legion Auxiliary.

Joan loved to read, she was a wonderful cook, play cards, trips to casino, and spending time with her family.

She married Ernest Francis LaBarge April 4, 1951, in St James Catholic Church, Carthage. Together they had five children.

She is survived by Christine (Frederick) Metzger, Peter (Rita) LaBarge, Lisa LaBarge and Michael LaBarge.  Six grandchildren; Erik, Kate, Nicole, Megan, Blake And Alexis; a daughter-in-law, Sherri LaBarge, a brother, Robert (Sally) Kitts, and a sister, Karen Kitts.

She was predeceased by her husband Ernest 1982, a son David LaBarge 2015,  and a sister Gail Kitts 2009.

Services will be at the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage on Thursday December 27, 2018.   Calling hours will be held 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, Dec. 27, at Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage with a noon service in the chapel with the Rev. Wayne Arnold officiating. A luncheon will follow at 1 p.m. at the Carthage American Legion.
