Karl W. VanCour, 68, Castorland

CASTORLAND, NY — Karl Willard VanCour, 68, of VanAmber Road, Castorland, died Thursday evening at home of the loving care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.

In keeping with Karl’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service.  Burial will be held privately by the family.

Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Lowville.

Born Sept. 30, 1950, in Gouverneur, NY, a son of the late Orville and Iris Barr VanCour, he served two tours in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.

On July 3, 1975, he married Cheryl L. Boliver in Lowville, NY.

Karl worked for several area companies in the heating/plumbing field, before working for Lewis County Opportunities as the Director of the Weatherization Program for many years until his retirement in 2010. He was a member of Carthage American Legion Post #789.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cheryl; four children; Dawn Sweeney and significant other, Stacy Faunce of Carthage and grandchildren, Dylan, Ryan and Meghan; Karl G. VanCour of Johnstown, and grandchildren Kristen and Kimberly; Amy and Wade Mattis of Castorland and grandchildren, Peyton and Rori; Roberta and Scott Houppert and grandchildren, Madison and Brooke; two sisters, Shirley Pomerville of Tupper Lake, Ora Jean Petrus of Florida; nieces, nephews and cousins and a large extended family.
