Lois E. Virkler, 90, Lowville

LOWVILLE, NY – Lois E. Virkler, 90,of East State Street, Lowville, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2018, at her home, under the loving care of her family and Lewis County Hospice.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Apostolic Christian Church of America, Croghan, with ministers of the church officiating. Burial will be in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery. Calling hours are 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville.

She is survived by her four children and their spouses, Cathy and Clifford Lehman of Castorland; Steven and Yvonne Virkler of Lowville;  James Virkler of Lowville; Chris and Susan Virkler of Croghan; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins, a sister-in-law, Mavis Mattoon of Spokane, WA.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Clyde F. Virkler, who died on August 3, 2010; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Everett and Onalee Mattoon and Leslie Mattoon.

Mrs. Virkler was born June 4, 1928, in Hermon, New York, a daughter of the late James and Grace Jeffers Mattoon. She graduated from Hermon High School in 1945 and attended Watertown School of Commerce and worked as a clerk/typist for Watertown Times.

On April 19, 1952, she married Clyde F. Virkler at Gouverneur United Methodist Church, with Rev. William Wood officiating.

Together with her husband, the couple purchased the family dairy farm in 1952, and operated the farm on the River Road until 1983, upon retirement. The farm is now owned by their two sons and daughter-in-law, Steven and Yvonne Virkler and James Virkler.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and crossword puzzles.

Mrs. Virkler was a member of Apostolic Christian Church of America, Croghan.
