UPDATE: Milk truck accident in Champion; driver identified by deputies

CHAMPION — At about 5:24 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies responded to 21727 County Route 47 in the town of Champion for a reported tractor trailer accident

“Investigation revealed that Jared Albers was operating a 2016 Freightliner with a loaded milk tanker attached, traveling north on County Route 47, at a speed too fast for ice conditions. The Freightliner lost control and left the western shoulder of the roadway striking a ditch. The Freightliner continued in a northern direction and struck a National Grid utility pole and then struck the exterior wall of 21727 County Route 47. After striking the residence the milk tanker detached from the Freightliner and overturned in the roadway.”

“There was one occupant inside the residence at the time of incident who was unharmed. The operation was also unharmed from the incident.”

Deputies were assisted at the scene by West Carthage Fire Department, Rutland Fire Department, Great Bend Fire Department, New York State Police, DEC, Carthage Area Rescue, Groff’s Wrecker and Pomerville Septic Service.
