Barclay:
Notorious Drug Legalization Kingpin and
Convicted Inside-Trader
Funnels Cash to Aubertine
New Disclosure Reveals Massive Contributions From
One of the World's Richest, Most Controversial Men
MEDIA RELEASE
WATERTOWN, N.Y., Feb. 20 — Alast-minute disclosure has revealed that the family of George Soros—the controversial hedge-fund billionaire and convicted inside-trader whose fortune has helped fuel radical, left-wing causes such as drug legalization and comprehensive gun control—has made a huge political campaign contribution to assist the Darrel Aubertine for Senate campaign.
"Every single North Country voter, regardless of party, should be alarmed by the fact that Darrel Aubertine's campaign is being funded by one of the most controversial figures in America—a man committed to legalizing drugs and criminalizing gun ownership," said George Williams, chairman of the Oswego County GOP Committee.
"This confirms everything we've said about who is really behind the Aubertine campaign, and we are confident that local voters will not stand by and let their Senate seat get highjacked by downstate billionaires who couldn't find the 48th Senate District if their life depended on it," Williams added.
Soros, the international financier who was convicted in France of insider trading, was once dubbed the "Daddy Warbucks of drug legalization." He was among the downstate campaign contributors who have just poured more than $655,000 into the Democratic State Committee and Darrel Aubertine's campaign coffers, the latest State Board of Elections campaign filings show.
"It is disappointing to learn that their campaign is being funded by George Soros, one of the world's richest and most controversial men, and a major advocate for legalizing drugs and criminalizing gun ownership. His pro-drug, anti-gun owner agenda stands in stark contrast to the ideals and values of the North Country," said Janet Kelly, Chair of the St. Lawrence County Republican Party. "This deeply troubling revelation throws back the curtain on the source of Darrel Aubertine's support. Voters need only to follow the money to gain a better understanding of what the future may look like if Will Barclay does not become our next Senator."
Soros is also well known for helping to bankroll Move-On.org, the group responsible for the controversial ad which recently depicted Four-Star U.S. General David Petraeus as a traitor.
The latest filings by the New York Democratic State Committee showed that the Soros family wrote checks totaling $75,000 just one day before the committee transferred $235,000 to Aubertine's North Country campaign. The contributions were among $655,000 funneled to Aubertine since Jan. 1—not one dime of which was raised from north of The Bronx.
Soros has been called alternately "Daddy Warbucks" and "Daddy
Weedbucks" for his deep-pocketed support of drug legalization efforts in the US and around the world. He has consistently aligned himself with radical, left-wing causes and positions unlikely to find much favor with North Country residents.
"Congressman John McHugh has said that Darrel Aubertine is not running a North Country campaign, and a closer look at Darrel's supporters reveals the reason why. It's no wonder when you understand more about Darrel's supporters, their agenda and the lengths to which they will go to elect their candidate," said Williams.
