HAMMOND, N.Y.  —  Robert E. Rush, 82, of Hammond and previously of Rochester, died peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, Jan. 5.

Born May 5, 1928, in Canandaigua, N.Y., the son of Earnest and Margaret DeVuyst Rush, he graduated from Webster High School and attended Syracuse University and the Rochester Institute of Technology. 

He owned Rush Typesetting in Rochester. 

He married Bessie Slate Gallagher on April 10, 1993.

Beloved father, husband, uncle and friend, Bob is survived by his wife, Bessie; a daughter, Margaret, and her children, Alexander Robert Damrath and James Edward Damrath, all of Richmond, Va.; a son, David, and his wife, Tamis Nordling, and their children, Evan Rush and Mia Rush, all of Seattle, Wa.; his wife Bessie’s children, Janie Hollister, Patrick Gallagher and Tammy Gallagher, all of Hammond; his devoted niece, Sandra Renick, Charlotte, N.C.; his devoted nephew, Michael Phillips, Clayton; and a host of loving family and friends from all over!  

A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday Jan. 13, at Costello Funeral Home, Alexandria Bay. A Masonic service will also be held at the funeral home at that time. A reception, immediately following services, will be held at the Hammond Village Hall. 

Bob’s family suggests memorial donations be made to the Hammond Masonic Lodge, the Hammond Fire and Rescue Squad, the Hammond Historical Museum, or a charity of one’s choice.
