Marian F. Zimmer

PLESSIS, N.Y.  ó  Marian F. Zimmer, 74, of County Route 3, died early Monday morning, March 5, at River Hospital after a short illness.

orn March 30, 1937, in Redwood, daughter of Harold L. and Laura Zimmer Flath, she attended Schnauberís  Corners School and graduated from Redwood High School as valedictorian in 1955. She attended Canton ATC in 1956. 

She married Paul H. Zimmer on July 8, 1956. The couple lived and worked on the family farm on County Rt. 3, near Plessis. She worked as a teacherís aide at Alexandria Central School from October 1968 until June of 1979. She then was employed as a senior computer operator for Redwood National Bank in Redwood and Alexandria Bay, until her retirement on October 1, 1999.

Marian was church organist at St. Paulís Lutheran Church in Redwood for nearly 60 years.  She served on the Board of Elections for the past 7 years, and helped organize the Redwood High School Reunion Committee from 1987 until the present. 

She was an accomplished seamstress and often made gifts of her handiwork for new babies, cancer patients and family members.

Surviving are her husband , Paul; two sons, Michael and his wife JaNae, Plessis, and Carl, Watertown; two grandsons, Patrick and his wife, Nicole, and their daughter, Collins Renee, Great Falls, Montana, while Patrick serves there in the U.S. Air Force, and Peter, a student at JCC in Watertown; a brother, Leonard Flath, Lansingburgh, N.Y.; a sister, Ruth M. Bateman, Watertown; an aunt, Eleanor Schneider, Theresa; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 26, at St. Paulís Lutheran Church, Redwood, with Pastor Jeri Dexheimer, officiating. A luncheon will follow the service at the Redwood Fire Hall.

Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to St. Paulís Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, Lake St., Redwood NY, 13679 or to Hospice of Jefferson County.
