Harold G. Curtin

CLAYTON, N.Y.  —  Harold G. "Noonie" Curtin, 88, formerly of Hilltop Towers and Dimmick Street, Watertown, died Tuesday evening, March 18, at Samaritan Medical Center.

A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at St. Mary's Church, Clayton, with Rev. Christopher C. Carrara, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Donations may be made in his name to the St. Mary's Church Organ Fund, 521 James St., Clayton, N.Y. 13624.

Arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton.

Born Nov. 24, 1919, in Watertown, son of Harold G. and Catherine Mullin Curtin Sr., he graduated from Watertown High School, and was a member of its football team. He also graduated from the Watertown School of Commerce.

He entered the Army on Jan. 12, 1942, and served as an airplane engine mechanic with the 345th AAF Battalion. He received the American Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 4, 1945 as a sergeant.

He married Veronica Bouchard on Jan. 24, 1948, in Brownville. Mrs. Curtin, a self-employed hairdresser for many years, died Dec. 31, 2006.

He had worked for several years at Curtin's Grocery on W. Mullin St., Watertown, and then worked for 27 years for Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. as an insurance salesman.

The Curtins had summered in Clayton for over 30 years, and had wintered in New Smyrna Beach, Fla., for 13 years. He had been a resident of Samaritan Keep Home for the last 4 years.

He was a communicant of St. Patrick's and St. Mary's Churches. He was a life member of the Watertown Elks Lodge #496 and the American Legion Post 61. He was a former member of the Knight of Columbus Council #259, the Watertown Golf Club, and the Clayton Country Club.

Surviving are three daughters, Sandra J. Curtin and her husband Joseph Hurteau, and Mary Ellen Curtin, all of Watertown, and Charlene A. Greene, Clayton; six grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides his wife, he was predeceased by his twp grandsons, Ryan Russell and Stephen T. Charles, a brother, Edward J. Curtin, and two sisters, Carol Gray and Jean Kozlowski.
