S. Pipe, 103, of County Route 16, town of Pamelia, died
Friday, March 29, at her home.
Calling hours will be held 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday,
April 13, at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Watertown,
followed by the funeral service at the funeral home at noon
with Rev. Steven Murray, Holy Family Church, officiating.
Burial will be in North Watertown Cemetery .
Born March 28, 1910, in Watertown, a daughter of Fred and
Cora Eddy Snell, she graduated from Watertown High School in
She married Walter J. Pipe on June 19, 1938, in Scranton, Pa.,
He died March 22, 2000.
For five years Irene was a long distance operator for New
York Telephone Co., and for nine years she was a clerk in
the receiving department at Empsall's Department Store, both
Mrs. Pipe was a member of Stone
Presbyterian Church and the Fidalias Club.
She was a past Brownie Leader, and she enjoyed gardening,
reading, knitting and spending time on the River and Lake .
It is remarkable that Irene lived in her own home and lived
to 103 years independently. Irene's proudest accomplishment
in her long life was her loving family. She always did
things her way.
Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Judith A. and
William D. Brenon, Watertown; son-in-law, Richard Gaffney,
Watertown; daughter-in-law, Susan Pipe, Watertown; 7
grandchildren and spouses; 16 great grandchildren; 3
step-grandchildren and spouses and four
Besides her husband, Walter, she was predeceased by her son,
Jon W. Pipe, May 23, 2010, her daughter, Linda I. Gaffney,
December 21, 2009, her brother, Justin "Judd"
