Robert H. Porter

WEST CARTHAGE, N.Y.    Robert H. Porter, 92, of 4 North Jefferson St., died Sunday, March 31, at Country Manor Nursing Home, Carthage, where he had been a patient since November.

Born Dec. 15, 1920, in West Carthage, a son of the late Harold F. and Margaret H. Hosley Porter, he attended school in West Carthage and graduated in 1938. 

Mr. Porter served in the Army as a technical sergeant with the Headquarters Company 3rd Battalion 155 Infantry from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. He also served in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre and received numerous decorations and citations. 

Mr. Porter was the owner and operator of Porters Wines & Liquors in Carthage for over 30 years, retiring in November 2000.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 789 and the V.F.W. Post 7227, both of Carthage.

Mr. Porter is survived by nieces, nephews and by his caregivers, Mike and Kathie Liberatos and George Redfield. 

Two sisters, Edith Hannon and Margaret Elizabeth (Betty) Hill, and four brothers, Wilbur, Jack, Philip and Harold Porter, all died before him

Services for Mr. Porter will be private. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Carthage. 

Arrangements are with the Bezanilla-McGraw Funeral Home, Carthage.
