Mary H. Alteri

WATERTOWN, N.Y.  —  Mary H. Alteri, 88, formerly of 158 Cedar St., and Mercy of Northern New York, passed away Sunday, April 7, at the Samaritan Keep Home. 

B
orn Nov. 13, 1924, in Watertown, a daughter of Jack and Sarah Palmer Leva, she attended local schools. 

She married Rocco Alteri on Sept. 2, 1946, at St. Anthony’s Church with Monsignor Claude Sechi officiating.

Mrs. Alteri was employed with Morgia’s Restaurant as a waitress, Faichney’s Thermometer Co., Smith and Percy, Boys and Men’s Specialty Store and Pelman’s until they closed. 

She was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church where she volunteered at the Mount Carmel Fest, the spaghetti suppers and was a charter member of the Altar Rosary Society. 

She was a member of the Italian American Civic Association and volunteered as a waitress. 
She enjoyed bowling, bocce and puzzles.

Surviving besides her husband are a son, Michael, Adams; a daughter and her husband, Roxanne and Roy Avery, Tarpin Springs, Fla.; a sister, Viola Pecori, Melbourne, Fla.; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. 

Three brothers Nick, Arthur, Joe, and a sister, Sally Mentry, all died before her.

Calling hours will be 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service will be held 9:15 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Anthony’s Church with Rev. Donald Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
