Ronald S. Thomas

CROGHAN, N.Y.   —  Ronald S. Thomas, 70, of 9777 Route 812, died Monday evening, April 8, at his home while under the care of friends and Lewis County Hospice.

Born
March 13, 1943, in Croghan, a son of Merlin and Margaret Zehr Thomas, he graduated in 1961 from Father Leo’s Catholic School in Croghan. He graduated in 1963 from Central City Business Institute, Syracuse, where he studied office administration.

He worked for the Grand Union Grocery chain as a meat cutter. After the death of his father, he took over the operation of the Grand Union in Croghan from his mother and later changed the name to the Thomas Market. 

Mr. Thomas sponsored Ronnie’s Rascals girl’s softball team for many years.

He enjoyed snow sledding, bowling, and especially liked playing golf. He loved to socialize and was always good for a laugh. 

He will be greatly missed by his golfing buddies and friends.

He is survived by two brothers, William, Florida and Merlin ”Joe”, Carthage. He is also survived by an aunt Venetha Houppert, Croghan, nieces, nephews and cousins.

His parents, a brother James, and two sisters, Susan and Jane, all died before him.

The family would like to thank his caregivers, Yvonne Kirschner and Timothy Kloster.

At Ron’s request, there will be no services. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Adirondack Funeral Home, Croghan.

Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to Friends of Lewis County Hospice of the Lewis County Humane Society.
