WATERTOWN, N.Y. —
Harry D. Atkinson, 87, formerly of Chestnut Street, Palm
Coast, Fla., and Ararat, Va., died Thursday, April 9, at
Samaritan Keep Home, Watertown, where he had been a resident
for three years.
A burial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14, in Maple Hill Cemetery, Rutland,
with Rev. Bruce Smith officiating
Born Feb. 16, 1921, in Salisbury, Md., a son of Arthur P.
and Marie Townsend Atkinson, he was educated in Maryland.
From Aug. 28, 1942, to Oct. 16, 1945, Mr. Atkinson was
served in the Army Air Corp.
He married Correwn "Johnnie" Moore on May 22,
1942.
Mr. Atkinson was the Director of Urban Renewal in the city
of Ogdensburg from 1967 to 1969. From 1970 until 1979, he
was a distributor for Hess and Eisenhardt Hearse Company,
Black River. While living in Florida, he owned and operated
a real estate agency.
He was a member of Watertown Noon Rotary, a board member of
the Stuart Hospital, Stuart, Va., and a member of the Stone
Presbyterian Church.
Surviving besides his wife are a son and a his wife, Scott
D. and Leslie E. Atkinson, Watertown; a granddaughter,
Meredith G. Atkinson; a
grandson, John D. Atkinson; several nieces and
nephews.
Two brothers, Robert and Jack, and a sister, Florence Walker,
all died before him.
