Thomas P. Collins

  Thomas P. Collins, 61, passed away Saturday night April 14, spending his last day surrounded by loved ones, feeling grateful for his life’s blessings.

Born Nov. 24, 1950, in Watertown, the son of Melvin and Dorothy Rogers Collins, he graduated in 1970 from Watertown High School and from Buffalo State University in 1975 with a degree in education.  

He worked for the Chateaugay Central School District as an art teacher for 30 years.  

Thomas loved the outdoors, music and art.

A marriage to Valerie Finch ended in divorce. 

He later married Sarah Fitzgerald on Feb. 15, 2012.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah, Watertown; two daughters, Tara Brettholtz, Clifton Park, N.Y., and Justine Budowski, East Aurora, N.Y.; a son, Dustin Collins, Phoenix, Ariz.; two step sons, Thomas Keenan, Buffalo, and Riley Keenan, Watertown; two sisters, Kathleen Colburn-Barkley, Gouverneur and Barbara Buckles, Watertown; a granddaughter, Sophie Brettholtz, Clifton Park; several nieces and nephews.  

Four brothers, William, Francis, John and Richard Collins. and two sisters. Joan Collins and Carolyn Webster, all died before him. 

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Cleveland Funeral Home with Father Stephen Murray officiating. A calling hour will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday before the funeral.
