Ida A. Shaw

CLAYTON, N.Y.  — 
Ida A. Shaw, 89, Strawberry Lane, and formerly of Alexandria Bay, died Saturday morning, April 26, at River Hospital, Alexandria Bay, where she had been a patient since April 20.

A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, May 5, at Omar Cemetery with Pastor Donald Briant, of the Clayton United Methodist Church, officiating.

Arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., Clayton.

Born Sept. 21, 1918, in Leeds, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Charles and Edna Hodge Powell, she attended Clayton schools.

She married Aulden M. Shaw on Nov.6, 1936, in Clayton. He died on March 14, 2005.

She farmed with her husband, and was a seamstress for the Clayton Manufacturing Co. In 1958, the couple added overnight cabins and cottages to the family farm. It eventually became Shaw's Mobile Home Park, Inc., a mobile home park for seasonal patrons. The couple had wintered in Crescent City, Fla., for 20 years.

Mrs. Shaw had attended the Clayton United Methodist Church. 

She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, knitting, crocheting, and fishing. She enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, especially her African Violets. She also enjoyed her parakeets, cats, dogs, and her aquarium.

Surviving are a son and his wife, Randy C. and Cheri L. Shaw, Clayton; her three grandsons and two granddaughters-in-law, Jerry A. and Vicki Shaw, Redwood, Jeffrey A. and Kathy Shaw, Alexandria Bay, and Michael S. Shaw, Clayton; two sisters, Phyllis Savage, Fla., and Esther Powell, Watertown; and her nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by three sons, Robert C., who died at birth, Clifford, who died in 1980, and Cecil M., who died in 1990, her twin daughters who died at birth, Arlene J. and Arloeen J., and her brother, Francis Powell, who died in the 1970s.
