Worth F.
Tibbles Sr., 87, formerly of Redwood, died Sunday, May 6, at
Mercy of Northern New York, Watertown, where he had been a
resident since 2004.
Born July 2, 1924, in the town of Theresa, the son of Albert
and Mable Ritter Tibbles, he attended Theresa schools and
then served in the Army from Oct. 20, 1945 until Dec. 22,
1946.
Mr. Tibbles
was a carpenter for Charles Garlock & Sons, Alexandria
Bay. In his younger days he worked for the New York
Railroad.
He married Gertrude M. Putnam on Dec. 27, 1945. She passed
away on Sept. 14, 1989.
Worth was a
member of the American Legion in Redwood and the Redwood
Volunteer Fire Dept.
He enjoyed bullhead fishing and spending time with his
family.
Surviving are two sons, Edwin Tibbles and Worth F. Tibbles,
Jr. (and wife Jean), LaFargeville; two daughters, Linda
Hirschler (and her companion Joseph Eggleston), Redwood, and
Cheryl Karllson, Augusta, Maine; 12 grandchildren; and
numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A son, Jeffery, a brother, William Tibbles, and four
sisters, Madelyn Tibbles, Isabelle Tibbles, Katherine
Tibbles and Beulah Pritty, all died before him.
A graveside service with military honors will be held 11
a.m. Saturday, May 12, in Redwood Cemetery with Rev. Edgar
Hunter officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Redwood Fire
Department.
