— Martha T. Kaban, 84, of Valley View Court,
died Saturday afternoon, May 17, at Lewis County General
Hospital.
A funeral Mass will be said 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church
with Rev. Timothy J. Soucy, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow at Lowville Rural Cemetery.
Family and friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday,
May 20, at the Sundquist Funeral Home, 7676 State Street, Lowville, where the Lewis County Memorial Post #6912 VFW Auxiliary will conduct a service at
7 p.m.

Born Nov. 25, 1923, in Martinsburg, daughter of Clement and Marie McNasby
Pelo, she graduated from Lowville Free Academy in 1941.
She was married Louis E. Compo on Sept. 8, 1942, in Marysville, Kansas.
He died in November 1968. In August 1983, she married Michael Kaban. He died in April of 1988.
Mrs. Kaban was a cook for Henry’s Hotel, John’s Grill, Carlowden Country Club and at the Pepper Mill Restaurant in Lowville for a total of more than 40 years.
She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Lowville, where she donated many countless hours to the St. Peter’s Church festival and Lewis County Council of Churches Thrift Shop.
She was a life member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912 VFW Auxiliary, a member of Lewis County General Hospital Auxiliary delivering mail to residents of the nursing
home, a member of the Martinsburg Historical Society and the Red Hat Society.
Mrs. Kaban enjoyed visiting with people, cooking, traveling, genealogy and especially her great grandchildren.
Surviving are a daughter and her husband, Cindi and Carl Golas,
Martinsburg; a son, Roger E. Compo, New Bremen; four
stepdaughters: Barbara and her husband Dennis Marshal, Carol Kaban, all of Watertown, Betty and her husband Herb Rowsam,
Lowville, and Rosie Triance of Utica; two stepsons: Richard and his wife, Jackie Kaban,
Lowville, and Jerry and his wife, Cheryl Kaban, Adams; a brother and
his wife, Michael and Phyllis Pelo, Lowville; and a sister, Belva Wendt,
Lowville; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by a son, Nelson Compo who died in August of 1978, and a daughter Carolyn Lee Compo in August of 1953, a grandson, Roger Compo in April of 1970 and two
sisters, Katherine Rasmussen and Anna Williams.
