Joan Cole

CARTHAGE, N.Y.  —  Joan Cole, 71, of 7577 Cardinal Lane, Brookside Apartments, Lowville, and formerly of 333 South Clinton St., Carthage, died Thursday evening at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility after a very brief stay. 

Born Dec. 19, 1936, in Watertown, daughter of Paul and Mary Radigan Monnat, she graduated from Immaculate Heart Central School, Watertown. 

She married Merlin V. Cole on Feb. 15, 1958, at St. Paul's Church in Black River. He died Nov. 13, 2006. 

Mrs. Cole was primarily a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, baking and spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are a son and his wife, Christopher and  Kathy Cole, Lowville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Valerie Cole-Seydler, Croghan, and Colleen and Dennis Edick, Croghan; a brother, William Monnat, Black River; two sisters, Mary Rasinski, Black River, and Barb Burns, Dexter; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

Besides her husband, she is predeceased by a brother, Richard Monnat, Pulaski.

A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, at St. James Catholic Church in Carthage with Rev. George F. Maroun, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the New St. James Cemetery. A private viewing will be held by the family at the Bossuot-Lundy Funeral Home, Inc., 500 State St., Carthage.
