Pearl J.
Payne, 89, of Gordon Court Apartments, died Tuesday, May 22, at her
home.
Born April 8, 1923, in
Oneonta, the daughter of George and Gladys Thompson Graham,
she graduated in 1940 from LaFargeville High School.
She married Albert Spencer Payne on June 26, 1940, at the
Redwood Lutheran Parsonage in a double wedding with
Albert’s brother, Kring and his wife, Frieda.
Mrs. Payne owned and
operated three different dairy farms and was owner of Mom
and I Upholstery in Theresa with her daughter, Amy Staie.
She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and sewing, was an avid
reader and taught reupholstering and refinishing furniture
for Cooperative Extension in Jefferson, Lewis and Oswego
counties.
Mrs. Payne was also a member of the Evangelical Lutheran
Church, Ladies Aid, and Strough’s Crossings Home Bureau.
Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Amy
and Vernon Staie, Theresa, Norma and Norman Gee, Theresa,
Diana and Leon Zimmer, Redwood; two sons, Bob and Frank
Payne, both of Philadelphia; grandchildren including Janet (Kaz),
Laura (Patrick), Aaron (Mitzi), Bradley, Brandon, Penny
(Gene), Melinda (Robert), Joel, Brian (Laurie), Vicky, Danny
(Dawn), William (Jennifer); two step-grandchildren, Richard
(Terry) and Dennis (Debbie); great-grandchildren including
Josh (Pam), Bret, Zoey, Madison (Luke), Megan, Adam, Rachel,
Jen (Jay), Eric (Jessica), Trevor, Alex, Elizabeth, Kylie,
Anna, Abigail, John, Malcolm, Anika, Maia, Theo, T’Kai,
Chanelle, Madison and Landon; step-great-grandchildren
including Logan, Carla (Bob), Stephanie, Christine (Don),
Connor, Donny (Stacy); great-great-grandchildren including
Nicole, Kaylynn, Miranda, Allie, Callie, Cory, Athen,
Brooke, Bobby, Taylor, Athen, Adrianna, Michael, Gaige and
Carlie; four sisters, Moya (Francis) Gaynor, Joan Babcock,
Rose Pavia and Frances (Dwight) Wright; a sister-in-law,
Shirley Graham; several nieces and nephews.
Two grandsons, Michael Payne and Jordan Payne, two brothers,
George and James Graham, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law,
Gratanna and William Getman, Geneva and Carl Chawgo, Grace
and Wesley Klock; two brothers and one sister-in-law,
Lynwood Payne and Kring and Frieda Payne, Joyce Graham, Earl
Babcock, Jim Graham and Bert Pavia, a daughter-in-law,
Marilyn Payne and two nephews, all died before her.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 25, at the
Evangelical Lutheran Church of Orleans Four Corners. Burial
will follow in Orleans Four Corners Cemetery.
