Helen E. Plato

GLENFIELD, N.Y.  —  Helen E. Plato, 90, formerly of Greig Road, died Wednesday morning, May 28, at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility. 

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 31, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville with Rev. Walter Giles officiating. Burial will follow in the Sands Cemetery, Greig. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 30, at the funeral home. 

Contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice. 

Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward M. Plato of Glenfield; Gerald E. and Joan Plato of Baltimore, Md.; a daughter and her husband, Alice and John Seymour, Brockport; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  

Two brothers, Emmett Harris and William Harris, died before her. 

Born July 24, 1917, in the town of Lyonsdale, a daughter of the late Ray E. and Alice Walker Harris, she graduated from Lyons Falls High School.  

On August 20, 1938, she married Millard S. Plato at Forest Presbyterian Church, Lyons Falls, with Rev. Raymond Muthard officiating.  Mr. Plato died February 14, 1970.  

The couple owned and operated her husband’s family dairy farm on the Lyons Falls – Greig Road at Fish Creek until 1965, upon retiring and moving to the Hamlet of Greig.  From 1966 until the school closing, Mrs. Plato served meals at the Greig Elementary School. 

Mrs. Plato was Past Secretary of Sands Cemetery Association, and was Town Councilwoman for the Town of Greig during the 1970s and early 1980s.  

She was and avid golfer, fisherman, and deer hunter.
