Joseph O. Kriwox

GREIG, N.Y.  —  Joseph O. Kriwox, 74, of Sweeney Road, died Saturday morning, May 31, at his home, while under the care of his companion and his family. 

A funeral service will be private and at the convenience of family, with Rev. Walter Giles, officiating. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville.

The family requests that instead of flowers, to please plant a tree in his honor, or make a contribution to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, N.Y. 13367.

He was born Dec. 18, 1933, at home in Otter Creek, a son of John and Eva Kriwox.  

He served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1956, where he was awarded the good conduct medal in 1955, and in the United States Air Force Reserve from 1956 until 1960, at which time he was honorably discharged.  

Mr. Kriwox was a self-employed logging contractor from 1960 to 2007. Much of his work was done in remote areas of the Adirondacks, yielding a high percentage of veneer logs. 

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. He enjoyed his woodlot and camp on Tug Hill.

Surviving are his companion of six years, Jody Houghton; eight children and their spouses, Laura Lee and Harold Ratner, North Carolina; Catherine Mildred and Rhudell Burriss, Lowville; Susan Abby and Guy Heater, Rhode Island, Nancy Lynn Kelly, Wa., Joanne Mary Smith, Fla., Joseph John Kriwox, Ohio, Patrick Jeffrey and Laurie Kriwox, Greig, Holly Jo and Robert Plemons, Hawkinsville; six brothers and their wives, John and Ruth, Ore.; Steve and Lydia, Tupper Lake; Charlie, Massena; Peter and Janet, Greig; Sam and Linda, Martinsburg, and Gary and Kathy, Highmarket; four sisters and their husbands, Sylvia and Ralph Chenell, Texas; Louise Hulbert, Brantingham, Amanda and Donald Blades, Glenfield, and Eva VanZandt, Watson; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  

He was predeceased by nine of his brothers and sisters.
