— Robert Lee Childers Sr.,
73, of 35920 Route 3, died Wednesday, June 11, at home.
Born Sept. 28, 1934, in Meadowbrook, W. Va., the son of Mildred Davis and James Carroll
Childers, he attended school in West Virginia and graduated from
high school in Florida.
He entered the Marine Corps in 1952, serving in the Korean War. He received the National Defense Service Medal,
the United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service Medal. He transferred from the Marines to active duty in the
Army in 1960. He retired from the Army National Guard, 127th Maintenance Co., at Fort Drum in November
1994.
He married Euline D. Potter Childers on Dec. 7, 1956, in Carthage. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Childers died
Jan. 24, 2008.
Mr. Childers worked as a truck driver for a few years. He was self-employed, he owned and operated "Childers' Used Cars and Parts", on
Route 3 for many years.
He enjoyed hunting, dancing, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a member of the Dionne-Rumble VFW Post #7227, Carthage.
Surviving are five sons and four daughters-in-law, Robert Childers Jr.,
Carthage, James and Pam Childers, Herrings, William and Cassandra Childers, Natural
Bridge, Donald and Wendy Childers, Carthage, and Paul and Sonya Childers, Natural
Bridge; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren;
four brothers, Clyde Childers; Roger Childers; Dale Childers; Ralph Childers;
and four sisters, Lois Nester; Annie Nester; MaryJo Delaugter; and Nancy Harris.
He was predeceased by his wife Euline, a sister, Helen Cain, and a brother, Donald Childers.
Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 13,
at the Bossuot-Lundy Funeral Home Inc., Carthage. A funeral service will be held
11 a.m. Saturday, June 14, in the Chapel of the funeral home with the Reverend Linda J. Harris officiating,
pastor of the United Methodist Church in Carthage. Burial will take place in the Fairview Cemetery with Full Military Honors immediately following the funeral.
