— A funeral Mass for George F.
Veitch, 97, formerly of Brookside Senior Living Community,
will be said 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, at St. Peter’s
Catholic Church, Lowville, with Rev. Timothy J. Soucy,
pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Beaches
Bridge Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with
Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

Mr. Veitch died April 25 at the Lewis County Residential
Health Care Facility, where he had resided since January
2006.
Surviving are two sons, William G. Veitch, Syracuse, and
Frederick C. and Flo, Okechobee, Fla.; four daughters,
Veronica F. and James Proulx, Central Square, Juanita M.
Briot, Croghan, Nancy A. and Doug Renodin, Lowville, and
Pauline E. Babcock, Lowville; 37 grandchildren, 73
great-grandchildren and 21 great-great grandchildren; a
sister, Alberta Salgado, Las Cruces, N.M.; several nieces
and nephews and cousins.
Two sisters, Virginia Muncy and Dorothy Briggs, died before
him.
Born June 4, 1910, in Mohawk, N.Y., a son of William G. and
Eva Maude Waller Veitch, he worked from the age of 12 at
various jobs including farming, logging, at the Pontiac
Plant in Pontiac, Mich.
He worked for the telephone company, laying the line in Old
Forge and Blue Mountain Lake, for the English Flooring
factory in Croghan, and the Basket Factory in Lowville.
He also worked daily work jobs for area residents during the
depression.
Mr. Veitch married Nellie A. Dickinson on June 11, 1928, at
Calvary Church, Utica. The marriage ended in divorce,
he later remarried.
He worked for Kraft at the Cheese Cold Storage from 1933 to
1972, retiring as superintendent. He then moved to
Arizona, residing in Tucson until 2000 when he moved to
Brookside Senior Living Community.
He enjoyed woodworking,
and loved gardening and growing flowers, especially roses
and working outside. He loved reading, especially history.
He loved country music and dancing and cross country
traveling. He was very artistic.
