— Harold R. "Sonny" Newton, 66, of 428 South Mechanic
St., died Wednesday, June 25, at St. Josephs Hospital Center,
Syracuse. He had been ill for a few days.
Born on Dec. 9, 1941, at home in Carthage, son of Harold and Bertha Bishop
Newton, he attended Carthage Augustinian Academy and Carthage High School. He served in the Navy from
1959 to 1962.
He married Marsha Olds on Aug. 3, 1963 at Woolworth Memorial United Methodist Church, Great Bend.
Mr. Newton retired in 1996 as a paper maker from the Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill in Carthage.
He was a member of the St. James Church in Carthage.
Mr. Newton enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and carpentry.
Surviving are his wife, Marsha; two daughters, Cindy Smith,
Antwerp, and Tonya Flint, Carthage; two sons and a
daughter-in-law, Harold Robert Newton II, Bruce, Wisconsin,
and Alonzo and Rosa C. Newton, Syracuse; five sisters and
two brothers-in-law, Donna Newton, address unknown, Linda Sanders, Carthage; Joan Newton,
Florida, Charlene and David Curtis, Ashford Hollow, N.Y.,
and Mary and Thomas Hoffman, Florida; and seven grandchildren.
A calling hour will be held 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, June 30. A funeral service will
follow at 2 p.m. Monday, June 30, in the Chapel of the Bossuot-Lundy Funeral Home, Inc.,
with Rev. George F. Maroun, pastor of St. James Catholic
Church in Carthage, officiating. Burial will be held privately.

Carthage.
