— Dewitt
L. "Pat" Marshall Jr., 76, of 1502 Ohio St., died early Monday morning, July 7,
at Samaritan Medical Center.
Born May 21, 1932, in Watertown, son of Dewitt L. Marshall, Sr. and Beatrice
Hobart, he graduated from Watertown High School.
He married Eudora LaVancha on May 14, 1957, in Virginia City, Nevada.
He was employed by E.C. Crooks Memorial Corporation, Carthage, as a branch manager and district sales manager. He worked for the St. Regis Paper Co. For 12 years, during his retirement he worked
part-tome for A. Cozzi & Co. Memorials, Watertown.
He was a past member of the Carthage Lodge 1762, B.P.O.E. and a former member of the Carthage Lodge 158, F. & A. M. He was the financial secretary for the Local 45, United Papermakers and Paper Mill Workers.
He was Town of Wilna councilman for 14 years. He served as Town of Wilna Justice for 10 years; Village of Deferiet
trustee; a former Member of the Natural Bridge and Deferiet
fire departments; and the New York State Volunteer Fireman's
Association. He was secretary of the Village Police and Town Constables Association of Jefferson
County, a member of the Jefferson County Magistrates' Association and New York State Magistrates
Association, a member of the board of directors of the Carthage Area
Hospital and Natural Bridge Area Civic Club. He was also a former
chairperson for the Republican Party.
Surviving are his wife, Eudora; several children; Patrick D. Marshall,
Ga., Sherri (Marshall) Munson, Watertown, Penny Jo (Marshall) Williams,
Niskayuna, Steven Marshall, Texas, and Edward (Marshall) Kendall,
Warnerville; a brother, Ronald Marshall, Watertown; two
sisters, Sonya Leiter, Carthage, and Sharon Irving, Pembroke, Mass; and two half-sisters; Renita
McGuianess, Cornwall, and Debbie Jackson, Auburn, N.H.; a half-brother; Douglas Marshall,
Cornwall; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A brother, Kirk Marshall, and a sister, Carol Berkmen, died
before him.
Calling hours will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at the Bossuot-Lundy Funeral Home Inc. 500 State
St., Carthage. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, July 10,
in the Chapel of the funeral home. A reception will follow at the Bassett-Baxter American Legion Post # 789. Carthage.
The burial will be held privately by the family at another time.
Donations in his memory can be made to the American Cancer Society.
