Constance A. Vebber

July 9, 2012

BLACK RIVER, N.Y.  —  Constance Ann “Conni” Vebber, 62, of 180 Main St., Massena, passed away July 5 at her home.

Born July 2, 1950, in Watertown, the daughter of Richard J. and Dorothy S. Vebber, she lived her childhood years in Black River.

She graduated in 1968 from Carthage Central School and SUNY Potsdam in 1972 with a degree in teaching. She went on to receive a master's of special education degree from the University of Miami in 1974.

Moving to Massena shortly afterwards, she taught special education at Massena, Herman DeKalb, Canton, and retired from Madrid-Waddington Central in 2005 after more than 32 years of teaching. “Miss Conni”, as she was known to her students, was devoted to her “kids” and received many accolades for her determination to help make their lives as special as they were.

One of the most generous, caring people you would ever meet in a lifetime, Conni was well known in Massena for her love of animals, random acts of kindness, floral decorating, volunteerism and her very witty and dry sense of humor.

She was active in the Lions Club, particularly with their vision screening program, Rotary Club, and the Humane Society.

Conni adored animals and had a Dachshund (Copper) and five cats (many from shelters) that will miss her very much.

Surviving are her father, Richard J.; a brother and his wife, Karl J. and Sarala R., all of Black River; two nieces and their spouses, Kristen and Ashley Rumble, Windermere, Fla., and Amy and Rich Pierce, Torrington, Conn.; four grand-nieces, Madeline, Ella and Lily Rumble and Samantha Pierce; and her dear friend, Walter Basmajian.

She was predeceased by her mother Dorothy, who passed away in 2008 and she will be greatly missed by all of us.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, in Black River Cemetery with Reverend Garvin J. Demarais of St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Black River, officiating.

Arrangements are with the Bruce Funeral Home, Black River.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Conni’s name to the Massena Humane Society, P.O. Box 145, 177 S. Racquette Rd., Massena, NY 13662 or the Massena Lions Club Vision Program, P.0. Box 5108, Massena, NY 13662.

Instead of grieving, we ask that you please celebrate her life, which was devoted to making the lives of those less fortunate better in any way she could.
