Edward B. Blackford IV

ADAMS, N.Y.  —  Edward Breece Blackford IV, 47, of Adams, also known as “crusher” to friends and family, died Thursday, July 18. 

Edward passed away due to injuries sustained from a utility vehicle accident in Jefferson, Ohio.

Born May 16, 1966, in Watertown, the son of Edward B. Blackford III and Patricia Jones Blackford, Adams, he graduated in 1984 from Royalton-Hartland High School in Middleport, N.Y. 

He married Janet Manzella in 1986. 

He was a devoted, loving, and fun family man and father.

Mr. Blackford was a 24-year veteran of the New York State Department of Corrections, where he was a corrections officer.

He was a member of the Watertown Elks Club #496. He proudly served as the secretary and road captain of the Warthogs Motorcycle Club, Chapter 4. 

He enjoyed many hobbies, from hunting and Harleys to camping and corvettes. He especially loved football, and gave generously of his time, coaching his sons’ South Jeff football teams from Pop Warner to the varsity level.

Surviving are his wife and parents, as well as his maternal grandmother Ethel Gunderson, Watertown; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Edward B. Blackford V, North Hollywood, Calif., and Patrick T. and Kristina J. Blackford, Buffalo, N.Y.; a sister and her husband; Rae Ann and Robert Thomas, Adams; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 25, at D.L. Calarco Funeral Home, Inc., in Watertown. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, July 26, at the Adams United Methodist Church, with Rev. Bud Masters and Rev. Mona Fargo co-officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. A celebration of life reception will follow at the Adams Fire Hall.
