— John C. Chambers, 78,
of Mile Square Rd., passed away Sunday afternoon, Sept. 13, at his home under the care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.
Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., 214 Sterling St., Watertown. The funeral service will be held
1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the funeral home with Rev. Patricia Farr, pastor of Emmanuel Congregational Church, Watertown, officiating. Burial will follow in West Lowville Cemetery.

Born in the town of Harrisburg on Mar. 8, 1931, the son of Bert and Lila Neidle
Chambers, he attended Lowville schools.
He married Veronica Chadil on Dec. 18, 1951, in the rectory of Lowville Methodist Church with Rev. Anderson officiating.
On April 22, 1953, he entered the United States Army. He received the American Occupation Medal (Germany), the National Defense Service
Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on
April 8, 1955.
He was a roofer, working for Roofers & Waterproofers Local 195, Syracuse. He worked throughout the north country, and after 38 years, retired in 1993.
Mr. Chambers was Methodist. He was a member of the Roofers & Waterproofers Local 195 and the Antwerp American Legion.
He enjoyed cutting wood with his own saw mill and was an avid woodsman. He also enjoyed collecting tractors, the memorabilia of tractors, and especially John Deer farm tractors.
Besides his wife, Veronica, he is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gary R. Chambers, Copenhagen, Bruce L.
and Susan K. Chambers, Theresa, and David J. and Lorrie A. Chambers, Carthage;
two daughters and a son-in-law, Rhonda J. Chambers, Copenhagen, and Cindy L.
and John Santiago, Central Square; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren;
a brother and his wife, Louis and Viola Chambers, Copenhagen;
five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Charmaine Sacchetti and Esther Saccketti, both of Watertown, Elsie
and Duane Waterman, Peru, Elizabeth Bennett, Ogdensburg, and Doris
and Arthur Haggerty, Theresa; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His brother, Norris, died at birth, and he was also predeceased by a grandchild.
