Ann J. Gaffney

WATERTOWN, N.Y.  —  The memorial service for Ann J. Gaffney will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home with Ann’s nephew, Rev. Scott Daby of Ogdensburg officiating.  Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Natural Bridge. A calling hour will be 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, prior to the service at the funeral home.  

Contributions may be made to the Hillside Cemetery Association, c/o Diane Peebles, P.O. Box 248, or to the Methodist Church of Natural Bridge, both of Natural Bridge, NY 13665. 

Mrs. Gaffney, 79, died Monday at the Country Manor Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Carthage. 

Born Nov. 22, 1929, in Natural Bridge, a daughter of Leonard G and Helen Underhill Prittie, she graduated in 1949 from West Carthage High School. 

Following her schooling, she worked as an attendant at the Pilgrim State Hospital in Brentwood, NY.  She also worked as an aide in both Mercy and the Good Samaritan Hospitals in Watertown. 

She married Paul Gaffney on Feb. 28, 1960, at Our Lady of the Sacred heart Church with Rev. Benoit C. Dostie officiating. He died in May 1988. 

Throughout the years, Ann’s outreach was extended to many by her gifts of time and service.  She enjoyed baking, cooking and humanitarian acts to friends and neighbors. She maintained a wide range of correspondence and her favorite pastime was playing bingo. 

Surviving are four sisters, Evangeline Rorke, Hopkinton; Florence Teuber, Houghton; Carol and Daniel Herzig, Watertown; Jane and Gilbert Daby, Parishville; a brother, Charles and Beryle Prittie, Ossineke, Mich.; many nieces and nephews, and her wonderful and loyal friend, Alfred Durgan, Watertown.  

She was predeceased by her husband, a son, Robert Gaffney, her parents, a brother, Richard Prittie, and a sister, Frances Mannellino.
