James R. Davis

THREE MILE BAY, N.Y.  —  James Robert Davis, 62, of Church Street, died Saturday evening at the Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown. 

The funeral for James Robert Davis, 62, of Church Street, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, at the Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Calling hours are 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the funeral home.

Born Sept. 25, 1947, in Watertown, a son of Robert C. and Louise Marshall Davis, both who predeceased him, he graduated in 1965 from Watertown High School, Jefferson Community College, and received a bachelor’s degree in business from Utica College in 1969.  

Mr. Davis joined the US Army Reserves in April of 1970, serving as a medic with the 479th Engineering Battalion. 

He married Catherine Garrett July 26, 1969, at All Saints Church in Chaumont. The couple celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary this past summer. 

He served on the board of directors for the Jefferson County March of Dimes and was a volunteer for the United Way of Jefferson County. He was a member of AUSA.   

Jim worked with his father at his company, Seaway Vending Co. for several years until the business closed.  He joined the National Bank of Northern New York in the collection department as an adjuster in 1972.  In May of 1975 he was named assistant chief adjuster and in Feb. 1977 was transferred to the purchased paper department.  In the spring of 1977 he was promoted to personal banker, and moved to the main office platform and became manager of the Northland Plaza office in July of 1980, just prior to the merger with Key Bank. 

Mr. Davis was elected administrative officer in June of 1982 and promoted to branch manager of the Washington Street Plaza office in 1983.  In January of 1989, he was promoted to assistant vice president of Key Bank of Central New York N.A.  He retired in June of 2007 from the Fort Drum back of Key Bank after 35 years of service. 

He enjoyed woodworking, boating on the St. Lawrence River, camping and enjoyed old cars.   

Besides his wife Catherine “Cathie”, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly Ann and Darryn Miner, Syracuse; two granddaughters, Carissa Ann Mahon and Carolanne Faye Miner, both of Syracuse; his step mother, Hazel Davis, Watertown; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Judy Davis, Columbia, S.C.; two sisters and their husbands, Sharon and John “Jack” Ruttan, Watertown; Sandra and Ron Pryor, Guilderland; many nieces and nephews.
