Harlow C. Riordan

WATERTOWN, N.Y.  —  Harlow C. ”Hap” Riordan, 91, of County Route 63 died Sunday at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home where he had resided.  

Born Aug. 28, 1918, in Evans Mills, the sixth child of Fred and Lizzie Zimmer Riordan residing on Perch Lake Road, he graduated in 1937 from Evans Mills High School.

 In 1942, he entered the Army serving at Pine Camp and Okinowa, Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1946 achieving the rank of master sergeant. 

He married Elizabeth Edna West of Evans Mills. They began their married life in Evans Mills followed by South Hamilton St., Knowlton Ave and finally South Massey St. Road, all of Watertown. 

Mr. Riordan was employed by the United States Postal Office from 1948 to 1976 as assistant Postmaster and manager of 91 post offices. 

Surviving besides his wife of 67 years are two sons and their wives, Stephen and Victoria, Whitesboro, and Frederick and Terry, Burnt Hills, N.Y.; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

A daughter, JoAnn, and a son, Stuart, died before him. 

The family wishes “dad”, eternal peace and to know that he had a positive influence on many people. 

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, at Reed & Benoit Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Evans Mills Cemetery. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the funeral home.
