WATERTOWN, N.Y. —
Edward J. Petrillose, 88,
of Lakeland, Fla., and formerly of Watertown and the family
cottage on Pillar Point, died Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Lakeland Memorial Hospital
in Florida.
Mr. Petrillose was born April
26, 1924, in Ithaca, the son of James and Marcella Goff
Petrillose.
Ed moved with his family to Watertown in 1941, the same year
his father opened Pine Cleaners on State Street. He
graduated from Watertown High School in 1942 and attended
the Dry Cleaning Institute in New York City.
He joined the United States Army and was honorably
discharged in 1946.
He married Concetta M. Capone on Oct. 31, 1946, at Our Lady
of the Sacred Heart Church. She died Dec. 5,
1999.
Mr. Petrillose worked with his father and brother, Vincent.
They purchased the business in the 1940s moving to Franklin
Street in 1951. In 1990, he and his brother sold Pine
Cleaners to their sons, Steven and Vincent.
Mr. Petrillose was a communicant of Saint Anthony’s Church
in Lakeland, Fla., All Saints Church in Chaumont and Holy
Family Church in Watertown. He volunteered for bingo and
sang in the choir at Holy Family Church.
Ed was a member of the Watertown Elks Lodge, Rotary Club of
Watertown, Watertown Council 259 of the Bishop Conrad
Assembly 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Watertown Islander Barbershop Choir and the
Keynoters.
He enjoyed making wine, golfing, fishing, and making
jewelry.
He piloted his own private plane.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Sandy,
Black River; a brother, Vincent, Lakeland, Fla.; a sister,
Vivian Briggs, Zephyrhills, Fla.; four grandchildren, Bobbie
Jo Morgan, Erica Hallisey, Toni Davis and Charles Locke, his
companion, Gloria Smith; six great-grandchildren; several
nieces and nephews.
A daughter, Mary Locke in 1997, and a granddaughter, Amanda,
both died before him.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at D.L.
Calarco Funeral Home, Inc. A prayer service will be held
9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the funeral home with a 10
a.m. funeral Mass at St. Anthony’s Church with Rev. Donald
Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery at
the convenience of the family.
