RODMAN, N.Y.  —  The funeral for Cathy L. Russell will be 11 a.m. Friday at Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Watertown.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Rodman. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at the funeral home.  

Mrs. Russell, 56, of the Wyman Road, died Tuesday at the Samaritan Medical Center where she had been a patient for three days.

Born July 16, 1953, in Watertown, a daughter of Arthur and Eleanor Castor Maitland, she graduated in 1972 from South Jefferson High School .  

She married Stephen Russell, Oct. 4, 1972, in Rodman. 

She worked for several years at Chesbrough Ponds in Watertown and Lollies Manufacturing in Adams. Cathy later worked caring for the elderly in the Rodman area, a job she held for many years.

Cathy spent a lot of time with her family planning reunions and researching cooking recipes, logging them into a recipe book.  

She was the “Secret Santa” in the Rodman area for many years.  Her hobbies were gardening, canning, crocheting and baking.  

She was a member of the Rodman Volunteer Ladies Auxiliary and for several years was a first responder for the Rodman Fire Department.

Besides her parents, Art and Eleanor Maitland, Adams, and husband, Stephen, Rodman, she is survived by a son and his wife, Michael and Shelly, Horseheads, N.Y.; a daughter and her husband, Tammy and David Wheller, Rodman; two grandsons, James and Justin Wheller, Rodman; a brother and his wife, Don and Karen Maitland, Adams; two sisters and their husbands, Cheryl and Gary Netto, Bridgeport; Diane and Dan Patterson, Adams Center; many nieces and nephews.
