Mary Hefferon,
93, of Lachenauer Drive, passed away Thursday morning, Nov.
15.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19,
at St. Patrick's Church with Rev. Donald Robinson
officiating.
Entombment will follow in Glenwood Mausoleum.
There will be no calling hours.
Arrangements are with Cummings Funeral Service, Inc.,
Watertown .
Mrs. Hefferon was born March 30, 1919, in Cape Vincent, the
daughter of Joseph and Florence Millen Constance. She was
especially proud of her Constance and Millen heritage and
enjoyed visiting Cape Vincent and the family homestead on
the Pleasant Valley Road, town of Cape Vincent. Millen Bay
was named after her maternal grandfather, Captain Abner H.
Millen, a lake captain.
She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Clayton and
from the Watertown School of Commerce in Watertown .
She married Thomas H. Hefferon on Aug. 17, 1940, at St.
Vincent of Paul Church, Cape Vincent with Rev. Thomas E.
Owen officiating. Mr. Hefferon, a principal at Case Junior
High School , Watertown, died April 4, 1985.
Mrs. Hefferon had worked as a secretary for a local
insurance agency, in a sales management position for
Robinson's in the Arcade, and also assisted her husband with
administering NYS Civil Service Examinations.
She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church and a member
of its Altar & Rosary Society.
Ola was also a member of both the Home Bureau and Case
Junior Retired Teacher's Assoc.
She enjoyed playing bridge and was a devoted mother and
grandmother.
Over the years, Ola especially enjoyed attending her
children's and grandchildren’s many sporting events.
Surviving are five children, Gail A. Hefferon, Manlius,
Thomas H. Hefferon Jr. and wife, Sara, Watertown, Margaret
T. Hefferon Roberts and husband, Ronald, Watertown, Barbara
E. Hefferon Henderson and husband, Dr. Brian Henderson,
Menlo Park, Calif., and Joseph J. Hefferon and wife, Meri,
Alexandria, Va.; four grandchildren, Joey Meri Hefferon,
Washington, D.C., James Michael Hefferon and his wife, Anna,
Richmond, Va., Meghan Elizabeth Hefferon and Caroline Olivia
Hefferon, Watertown; and numerous nieces, nephews, and
cousins.
A daughter, Mary Ellen Hefferon, and two brothers, Joseph
Constance of Cape Vincent and Forrest Constance of Sackets
Harbor, all died before her.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made
in her name to St. Patrick's Church, 123 S. Massey St. ,
Watertown , NY 13601 or a charity of your choice.
