GLENFIELD, N.Y. —
Robert
J. Doner, 79, of the McPhilmy Road, died on Christmas Day,
Tuesday, Dec. 25, at Upstate Medical University, Syracuse,
where he was a patient since December 20.
Born June 30, 1933, in Syracuse, and raised on “Tipp
Hill” the son of the late Edward A. and Helen Elizabeth
Stapleton Doner, he attended school in Syracuse and received
his GED, and entered the US Air Force and served during the
Korean conflict.
Bob retired from the Onondaga Sheriff’s Department as a special
deputy sheriff.
He moved to the Chases Lake area in the early 1960s because
of the snowmobiling, hunting and fishing and shared his home
with several dogs.
He is survived by his son his wife, Mark R. and Elizabeth
“Liz”; their children, Robert C. Croff, John P. Haas, Patrick W. Haas,
Ian J. Doner, Patricia E. Haas, Christina I. Doner, McKenzie
L. Haas, Journey R. Doner and Emily L. Doner; his two
sisters, Teresa Punch and Norine and her husband Werner
Wilsch, all of Syracuse; two brothers, Richard and his wife
Jeanie Doner, and Gerald Doner, all of Syracuse; a
sister-in-law, Marilyn Doner of Lisbon; several nieces and
nephews, a good friend Barbara Edick, Lowville.
A granddaughter, Helen E. “Izzy” Doner, and a brother,
Edward M., both died before him.
In his earlier years Bob was a communicant of St.
Patrick’s Church, Syracuse, a member of the Lowville
American Legion Post # 163, Lowville Elk’s Lodge #1605,
and Lewis County Memorial Post #6912 V.F.W.
A memorial Mass will be said 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, St. Patrick’s
Church, 216 N. Lowell Ave., Syracuse.
A graveside military service will be held in the spring at
Sperryville Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours.
