Virginia R. Holmes

WATERTOWN, N.Y.  —  Virginia Ruth Holmes, 84, formerly of Meadow Street, died Friday evening at the Madonna Home where she had been a resident for three years. 

Born Jan. 19, 1924, in Alexandria Bay, the daughter of Ambrose and Beatrice Beebe Farrell. she attended Alexandia Bay School. 

She married William Grant Holmes on Jan. 26, 1943, in New Bedford, Mass. Mr. Holmes died in 1994. 

Mrs. Holmes was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking. 

Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Beatrice and Everett Miles, Central Square, and Ruth Clough, Watertown; two sisters, Demaris Horning, Clayton, Hazel Zapf, Fla.; a brother and his wife, Merton and Bertha Farrell, Clayton; five grandchildren, Tiffany and Jeff Smith, W.Va., Debbie Myers, NJ., Everett, Jr. and Patricia Miles, Central Square, Rodney and Rene Miles, Pennellville, Keith and Jamie Miles, Bernhards Bay; seven great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.  

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Reed & Benoit Funeral Home. A calling hour will be 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday before the service. Her body will be cremated. Burial will be at Brookside Cemetery in the spring.
