Carol M. Hunter

CHAUMONT, N.Y.    Carol M. Hunter, 63, of Three Mile Pt. Rd., passed away Saturday afternoon, Dec. 29, at her home under the care of her family.

Born Oct. 5, 1949, in Alexandria Bay, the daughter of Byron and Verna Thompson McAvoy, she graduated from Hammond Central School, attended Ithaca College and graduated from Potsdam State Teachers College.

She married Robert G. Hunter on Jan. 9, 1971, at Hammond Presbyterian Church. The couple lived in Brownville for several years and moved to Chaumont.

Mrs. Hunter taught math at Copenhagen Central and retired from General Brown Central after 30 years of teaching. She also was a tax preparer for over 35 years working from her home.

She was a member of the Brownville United Methodist Church where she was treasurer, choir director and organist for many years. She was also a member of NYSUT, NYS Income Tax Preparers as an enrolled agent. 

She enjoyed traveling, quilting, basket weaving, sewing, knitting, candle, wine, and soap making.

Surviving are her husband, Robert; three sons and their spouses, Michael and Rebecca, New Woodstock, Jonathan and Tara, Marion, Bradley and Becki, Rochester; two grandchildren, Robert and Morgan; her father, Byron, Carthage; two sisters, Reva Flamand, St. Lake City, Utah, and Ellen McAvoy, Canastota; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, at the Brownville United Methodist Church. Calling hours will be 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, at the Johnson Funeral Home, Dexter. The body will be cremated. 

Donations may be made to Three Mile Bay Fire and Rescue Squad in lieu of flowers.
