Francis B. Kirkey, 87,
passed away Friday, Dec. 16, 2016, at Hospice of Jefferson
Born April 29, 1929, in Paddy Hill, the son of Augustus and
Gertrude Farrell Kirkey, he was a graduate of
Brownville-Glen Park High School. He was a veteran of the
United States Navy.
With his wife Geraldine, he operated the Greystone Inn, a
bed and breakfast in Clayton Center. He was a sales manager
for Clayton Marina in Clayton and Brewerton, and then worked
for Experience Works Senior Workforce Solutions.
Frank was a former member of the Clayton Chamber of
Commerce, where he served on the Board of Directors, and the
Blue Grass Association.
He taught watercolor painting for many years at the Hawn
Memorial Library in Clayton. He enjoyed carving, kayaking,
fishing and showing others where to fish. He was a musician,
poet, and limerick writer.
He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins fan.
In addition to Geraldine, his wife of 46 years, he will be
missed by his four children, Karen Kirkey, Rochester,
Christa Fraser, Welland, Ontario, Peg (Steve) Chaff, Butler,
PA, and Matthew, Clayton; three stepchildren, Maureen
Sharrer, Orchard Park, James Barnett, West Seneca, and Patti
(Doug) McCullough, Prospect, PA; six grandchildren and seven
great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and
He was predeceased by his brothers Reginald and Raymond.
A private celebration of his life will be held at a later
date and arrangements are entrusted with Cummings Funeral
Service, Inc., Clayton.
