Joseph A. Hale Jr.

WATERTOWN, NY  —  Joseph A. Hale, Jr., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, NY, after a brief illness.

Calling hours will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at Reed & Benoit Funeral Home, Inc. 632 State St., Watertown, with a funeral service to begin at 1 p.m.

Joseph was born on April 10, 1931 to the late Joseph and Essie Hale of Westifield, NJ. Joseph was educated in the New Jersey School System. He served in the Army in the 50’s during the Korean War, and was honorable discharged as a sergeant.

During his career he worked at H.P. Taverson as a truck driver in Westifiel, NJ, Seaway Truck Company driving tractor trailers, a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy, and Joe retired as a sergeant on the police force in Alexandria Bay, NY.

Joe was a member of the Elks of Westifield, NJ, Brownville American Legion and a lifetime member and past commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1400, Watertown, NY. Joe was also a Department of New York 4th District Commander.

He is survived by a daughter, Deborah Hale Hunter, Elizabeth, NJ; a son Elliott Hale, New Brunswick, NJ; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; a great-great granddaughter; a brother, Alvin Hale, Philadelphia, PA; his special companion, Ursula Mickle, Watertown; and several nieces and nephews.
