Alex J. Knittel

COPENHAGEN, N.Y.    Alex Jordan Knittel, 28, of 1993 Doran Road, Copenhagen, died Friday, April 14, 2017, following a tragic car accident.

Born on July 29, 1988, in Stuart, FL, a son of Michael Knittel and Cindy L. Scheid, he graduated in 2007 from Port St. Lucie High School.

During high school he played football, in which his team came in second place in the Florida State Championship game, soccer, and baseball.

Following school he entered the US Army on January 30, 2008. He served in Fort Riley, Kansas and was transferred to Fort Drum in September of 2012 where he was currently a Scout Squad Leader.  He served two tours in Iraq and Afghanistan and received numerous awards and medals including the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, Iraq Campaign Medal with Bronze Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Achievement, Commendation and Good Conduct Medals, three Overseas Service Ribbons, Combat Infantryman Badge and several more.

He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed target shooting, diving in the Florida Keyes and loved spending time with his children.

He married Samantha J. Snow on January 3, 2011, in Port St. Lucie, FL.  

Besides his wife he is survived by his step son, Jayden E. Snow; a daughter, Bella L. Knittel; a baby girl due in June to be named after him, Jordyn; his beloved mother, Cindy L. Scheid, Port St. Lucie, FL; his father and stepmother, Michael and Angela Knittel, Port St. Lucie, FL; a sister and brother in law, Jillian and Matthew Lock, Buckeye, AZ; two nephews, Matthew James Lock, Samuel Avery Lock; a niece Aubrey Lock and several cousins.

The funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 22, at Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, 117 N. Massey St., Watertown. Full military honors will follow the service at the funeral home.

A calling hour will precede the service noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
